This ship model of Star Trek’s USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) was located aboard the United States Navy’s USS Enterprise (CVN-65) before being transferred to the Naval History and Heritage Command for preservation in 2006. Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, wrote the premise for his space epic in 1964, just three years after the United States launched the nuclear-powered USS Enterprise (CVN-65), the most advanced aircraft carrier in the world at the time. The Enterprise name has upheld its legacy for many decades within the Star Trek franchise. Naval History and Heritage Command Image.
