Sharing the history and heritage of our Navy honors the past and inspires the future. It builds esprit de corps within the ranks and it can offer valuable strategic and tactical lessons learned - keeping us well ahead of potential adversaries. Headquartered on the historic Washington Navy Yard, D.C., the Naval History and Heritage command includes ten official Navy museums- strategically located around the country in areas of U.S. Navy concentration - that work to share the story of the U.S. Navy through exhibits and educational programs. The National Museum of the U.S. Navy collects, preserves, displays, and interprets historic naval artifacts and artwork to inform, educate, and inspire naval personnel and the general public. The museum was established in 1961 and opened to the public in 1963. As one of the Navy's ten official museums throughout the country, it is the only one that presents an overview of U.S. naval history.
Hours of Operation: The National Museum of the United States Navy is located in building 76 on the Washington Navy Yard and is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The museum is closed Sundays and Holidays.
The Cold War Gallery is in Building 70 and open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and by appointment only on Saturday.

The Naval Aviation Museum 
selects, collects, preserves and displays historic artifacts relating to the history of Naval Aviation. As such, it captures Naval Aviation's heritage and brings its story of challenge, ingenuity and courage to you. Featuring nearly 300,000 square feet of displays, it's one of the world's largest aviation museums. Located aboard Pensacola Naval Air Station, the facility boasts more than 150 beautifully restored aircraft representing Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard aviation and is Florida's most-visited museum.
Hours of operation: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., year-round, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year's days.

Located in Great Lakes, Illinois, The National Museum of the American Sailor's mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of the United States Navy's Enlisted Sailor for the benefit of the U.S. Navy and the people of the United States.

Located in Norfolk, Virginia, The Hampton Roads Naval Museum is dedicated to the study of 241 years of naval history in the Hampton Roads region.
Hours of Operation: Currently Closed for remodeling, the museum will resume visitation hours on August 1, 2019.

Located in Port Hueneme, California, at Naval Base Ventura County PH, Building 100, The U.S. Navy Seabee Museum collects, preserves and displays historic material relating to the history of the Naval Construction Force, better known as the Seabees, and the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps.

The U.S. Naval Undersea Museum
collects preserves, and interprets naval undersea history, science, and operations for the benefit of the U.S. Navy and the people of the United States. The museum holds the country's most comprehensive collection of U.S. Navy artifacts, documents, and reference material related to undersea subjects, and are renowned for several of these specialty collections, especially those in torpedoes, mines, diving and salvage, submarine technology, and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs).

U.S. Naval Academy Museum collects, preserves, and exhibit the artifacts and art that are the physical heritage of the U.S. Navy and the Naval Academy in order to instill in Midshipmen a knowledge of the history and heritage of the U.S. Navy and the Naval Academy and to supplement the instruction of all academic departments of the Academy, as well as to demonstrate to the public the contributions of Academy graduates to the military services and to the Nation. And to motivate in young people a desire to become part of the Brigade of Midshipmen and to begin a career of service to their Nation.
