Passing of Rear Adm. Philip A. Whitacre, SC, USN (Ret.)

April 17, 2020 | By Samuel J. Cox Rear Adm., USN (retired) Director of Naval History and Heritage Command, Curator for the Navy

It is with deep regret I inform you of the passing of Rear Admiral Philip Arthur "Phil" Whitacre, Supply Corps, U.S. Navy (Retired) on April 14, 2020 at age 87. Phil entered the U.S. Navy and served on active duty during the Korean War. He subsequently remained in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 37 years and retired as a Rear Admiral.

Rear Admiral Philip A. Whitacre

I regret I do not have any additional documentation on his career except the limited information contained in the attached obituary. If my archivists turn up something in the archives I will try to write a more thorough biography. It is also clear he led a very full and rewarding life of service after his military retirement.
